Cheddar Somerset

I travel because it makes me realise how much I haven't seen, How much I am going to see and how much I still need to see.

Visisting Cheddar Somerset

Visiting Cheddar Somerset was part of our annual “in need of rest” holidays. Again, it was that time of the year where myself and my family needed to retrieved and get away from our daily busy schedules. Cheddar Somerset is definitely English countryside at its finest. The town is small, and built to cater for a tranquil peaceful countryside life. And to be honest, although I enjoy elaborate city getaway trips, at heart visiting towns like Cheddar Somerset is more my speed. In general, I enjoy being at peace in nature, breathing in fresh air and soaking in beautiful scenery.

About Cheddar Somerset

The town is located on the edge of Somerset Levels. Truly, the height of Cheddar soars 500 feet to the top of Cheddar Gorge. Namely, Cheddar is known for being the home of the highest inland cliffs in England. It’s also known for grossing world-famous produce like traditional English cheese which can be found at the Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company. Specifically, Cheddar is also famous for boasting Great Britain and for being one of Britain’s most impressive landmarks.

What We Got Up To

Firstly, at first glance, we were amazed at how historic the town is. At least I was, as my sister had been before and was amused at how much I loved the town and how confound I was at its history and landmarks. In fact, the limestone Gorge has been there for centuries. It can be seen running throughout the footpaths along to the cliffs where you can openly view a 360-degree view of the Mendip Hills. Furthermore, the town is also the owner of Cheddar cave. This is where they indeed discovered Britain’s oldest complete skeleton, the Cheddar Man, dating 7000bc. Additionally, the massive caves system leads to the chamber of ‘king Solomon’s Temple, with solid rocks above it.

For the length of our trip, we stayed at the Cheddar Woods Resort and Spa, a beautiful resort with holiday lodges. The lodges at the resort are designed to be cosy homes for visitors. Inside the resort, there is plenty to do and enjoy including outdoor hot tubs, in-park activities such as archery, swimming, indoor soft play area for under-fives and so much more.

Finally, On the whole Cheddar Somerset caters for other activities; walks, rock climbing, museum etc. The Cheddar reservoir is a great place to spot wildlife or go for a bike ride.
