George Floyd And The Black Lives Matters Movement
Black Lives Matters. This is my Journal thoughts about the event that took place on May 25th 2020, in-regards to George Floyd, and other events that followed soon after.
George Floyd
On May 25th 2020, George Floyd, an African American man was brutally “murdered” by a group of Minneapolis police officers. Truly, we all watched the publicly viral video where George Floyd was arrested, handcuffed and pinned to the ground by Police officers. Immediately after his arrest, Derek Chauvin one of the police officers later suppressed George Floyd to death in front of public witnesses, by placing his knee on George’s neck for a total of eight minutes and forty-nine seconds. This is indeed the recorded length of time according to the official reports as to his cause of death. Hence, as a result of this heart-breaking event, the spiral unravelling of other related incidents became public knowledge. And in sum added to a long list of injustice acts in America and other countries that no longer could be ignore or brushed over.
Black Lives Matters
Meanwhile, simultaneously, all of this took place in the height of lockdown. As a whole the entire world was indoors, watching the bare truth of racism being unveiled and handed to us. We also were learning about the negative impact police brutality has had on black communities for centuries. Furthermore, also being unveiled was the truth about systemic racism and white privilege. Above all of this, the thought that I personally couldn’t get pass and kept referring back to my minds. Was in sum, the absolute and complete disregard for LIFE that I saw in the George Floyd video. There, in that video. I witness the idea that a PERSON deserves to be murdered because of the colour of their skin.
Furthermore, and equally important, for decades black people have been fighting for their human rights. To be truly seen, heard and valued as equals citizens on this earth that NO RACE created.
In the end of all this, the absolute truth is. God alone made man (meaning everyone) he made us in HIS image and he said that you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalm 139:14. Moreover, God is the creator, he and he only has the right to judge a soul, we are mere mortals, we DO NOT have that right. Consequently, those who think they do are trying to play God and are indeed in for a rude awakening. On the whole, our role as HUMAN BEINGS and citizens of the same nation is to see, hear, respect and value others as you yourself would like to be seen, heard, respected and valued. Matthew 22.
Be well and be the best of YOU!
